Host The term anti-aging is now outdated. Pro-aging is a new term. Like you have to age as a pro.
Karine That’s a good one. I heard also that maybe in 10 years from now, we all going to have tools in our life that make us live much much better and longer. Because when you go out there, you hear all these words like longevity, longevity, longevity.
Host Yeah.
Karine What is longevity? Longevity, it doesn’t mean that you get older and older and older. It means basically that you get older very well. Our logic as a child is not the same like an adult. So we tend to believe things that are not true.
Host Today my guest is Karine Lackner. She is a founder and editor and chief of Sanctoum, the intelligent wellness review.
Karine Every failure is not a failure. It’s just an experience which leads you to the next step. I think we just need to go through all of these stages until we reach where we want to be.
Host Until we will reach Nirvana.
1:28 Welcome Karine
Host Karine, welcome to the show.
Karine Thank you so much for having me.
1:33 Company & Magazine Overview
Host We’re just talking off the record about you. So, fill in the gap like what do you do? What your does your company do and what does your magazine uh do?
Karine Well, yes, it’s a it’s a big mission, but that mission started very long time ago when I was young. You know, I used to be a quite famous model in my home country in Austria and that is so many decades ago ago, of course. But um I was always interested in wellness in different aspects from yoga uh to food being a vegetarian and so on you know just exploring when you’re young all kinds of different aspects of life and then I started um to study applied kinesiology and orthomolecular medicine which basically is just to know how what your body needs in terms of vitamins and all these kind of things. So I don’t want to make it too complicated. I just want to say my story started long time ago. And the second passion is interior design. So I drifted into interior design for about 15 years when I used to live in the south of France and Monte Carlo.
2:44 From Burnout to Wellness
Karine It was an amazing time just that like so many people that are really really busy. Uh it came to the point that there was a burnout syndrome really. I couldn’t move my head anymore. So I went to a very very old doctor. He was about 80 years old and he did acupuncture. He kept me 12 hours on an acupuncture bed. And after that I was completely fixed. So this is one of those really interesting uh episodes in my life that just telling me okay go into wellness. there is so many possibilities for the body to take care of, for the body to heal and so on. So uh then I moved uh away from the south of France and I started to live uh in the Middle East and I found out that basically um travel is one thing that they love like going to Paris, going to London but the whole world is so amazing and you can find a lot of really nice places which are regenerative which are giving a lot of different uh aspect aspects to your health.
Host Yeah.
Karine Not only eating and staying at the beach, but many other things. So, I started this u magazine called Horizon and Beyond: Luxury, Travel and Lifestyle uh published in English and Arabic and um I did it basically until COVID came. So just before the universe sent me a message and told me maybe it’s the time to stop now and for two years during the COVID I was living in the Philippines. I have a house there on an island.
Host Wow.
Karine And um so I had the most beautiful time actually. I stayed there with my daughter. We adopted a dog and so many cats. We had a lovely time. But then it was time to go back to the Middle East and this time to Dubai. So in Dubai when I arrived here I uh I was so interested in in things that because of maybe the time with COVID and the time that so many people they felt kind of lonely and and separated from everything. I I started to take an interest in hypnotherapy and actually into the things that are little traumas, big traumas, whatever traumas from childhood, from later on and so on. And that I studied the famous uh RTT method by Marisa Peer. I studied for one year and I got completely hooked on it because I saw what you know we were a big group of people I think 70 people studying and so we were training with each other and we saw a lot a lot of people that they just broke down in the middle of the the the course because everything came out of their traumatic situations as a child. It was very good. It was very good.
Host You were because you were kind of training on each other. You were doing each other.
Karine On each other. Yes. Yes. Yes. And I found out that many people have difficult childhood. And I adopted uh many years before I adopted two children in the Philippines. And it taught me a lot about how when you raise children, how you have to be aware of what you are saying, how you are treating them and what you have to pay attention to. So I could use it for myself and I could use it then for my clients which was amazing. And this is the time when I started to believe that whatever is concerning your health, your mental health should be the first step. It should be really um it could be a big trauma, a small trauma, it could be anything. But in our in our childhood maybe from from zero I would say to seven uh our logic as a child is not the same like an adult. So we tend to believe things that are not true but that is in in in in our self in our subconscious it’s just there and when we grow up we forget about it but it’s still there and it’s very nice when people come to hypnotherapy and you find out what is the real reason behind the problem they have. So uh I got so fascinated by all of that and when I started my own podcast which is called the invisible prison podcast. I only wanted to relate to mental problems which can be as I said small or big but once you understand that everything is fixable in a way or in another.
Host Yeah.
Karine depending my guests had all different topics. So you can say that there is many many reasons why something is happening to you. It could be even from ancestor from lineage from from your ancestors. Um but it could be also just because the way you grew up and what you heard and what you registered which might not even be true or might be very true.
Host So wow.
Karine Yeah. I I got really fascinated by that and then this one because I had very interesting guests. This led me to think that now I really need to spread the word around the world with a magazine and online magazine that I can introduce so many experts in so many different fields. So people can learn what is available out there. people can learn who to address their problem or maybe just get a a general information about all the things that are out there. And I really love that. I mean, it’s it’s really a mission. It’s really a mission and I think I am blessed to have met so many interesting people and I will continue to meet so many interesting people and I can just bring them out. I can just tell the whole world okay look at this person what he does look at his path you know people sometimes have a very difficult path in life and then they discover what they are meant to be and that is that is a that is an example that I have with almost everyone of my of my guests in the in the podcast and I’m I’m really so blessed. I tell you, I’m so blessed.
Host Wow. Well, the way you’re telling about it, I mean, makes me feel goosebumps because I kind of relate. First of all, the fact that you started the business or started the magazine as a result uh as a continuation of your podcast is very relatable to me because I started my business uh after starting to do podcast. And um how many countries did you live in?
Karine Oh, more than 12, I think.
Host Oh, this is so amazing. I’m always so envy of people who are able to live this life where they’re not stagnant. Maybe stagnant is not the is the right word, but I mean I I always dreamt of living in different countries because it just uh helps you have a glo global perspective on life on the world.
Karine Yes. Yes. But it’s also depending on on your courage, you know. Sometimes courage is one part because many people don’t want to move because they feel afraid.
Host Yeah.
Karine And others just don’t have the opportunity. So
Host yeah,
Karine once you have the opportunity and you can just pack your suitcase and go, you should go because there is always something better waiting. And if it’s just the experience,
11:17 The Magazine’s Community
Host what what are some uh things that you find to be in common uh among your guests uh and I think who are now readers and supporters of your magazine? What are the things in common that kind of unite them as a community around your mission?
Karine Well, thanks God. Now we have a lot a lot of interest in wellness and well-being and mental well-being and general well-being because when you go out there you hear all these words like longevity, longevity, longevity. What is longevity? Longevity it doesn’t mean that you get older and older and older. It means basically that you get older very well. So this is what old people
Host you don’t get sick. You don’t get sick too much, right? That’s what it means.
Karine You don’t you you know that I’m never sick. I’m never sick. I have never been sick. I’ve never been in the hospital. I’ve never been sick. And I also think No, maybe I’m lucky. Maybe the universe is helping me. But look, what I’m thinking is that when you have a passion in life, all your cells and everything inside your body is thriving. Um many things are unfortunately a part of cancer and you know mental things and when you are now thinking about longevity you have to take in consideration that all you want is live longer and live healthy longer.
Host Yeah.
Karine Otherwise it doesn’t make sense. And I think this is what we have in common. So we are having all these tools that are more and more available now with the variables with the different people that are giving their advice. And then if we just listen to our body as well and get the information and and take and have the awareness and and take the interest then I think we can all have a better and a healthier life.
Host I had a a a friend who’s a big um doctor here in Ukraine and he also dedicates his life to longevity and I think he told me that the the term anti-aging is now outdated. Pro-agging pro-aging is a new term like you have to age as a pro. That’s exactly what you’re Yeah. that well well we cannot reverse engineer uh aging right people are our life is finite but this is what makes it beautiful right
Karine yes and you know I think I heard also that maybe in 10 years from now we all going to have tools uh in our life that make us live much much better and longer I hope uh this can be accelerating a bit for some people like me to be the older generation We are looking forward to that. But um I think again the awareness of what can we do and seeing our body not as a given thing. Our body is really a gift and that gift needs to be cherished.
14:30 The Secret Sauce Behind Success
Host So tell me about your business now because the the name of the podcast is one thing that worked. Obviously your experience and your network I assume really helped you to start this business. But if you were to pick one thing that made the Sanctoum intelligent wellness review magazine successful so what would be the secret sauce?
Karine I think uh it is three things.
Host Mhm.
Karine One, it’s my ambition to make something that really stands out. And when I say we are the only wellness magazine that is only concentrating on wellness through our experts and people that I meet constantly in events that are bringing so much knowledge and so much positive things to us.
Host Yeah,
Karine that is very important. The other thing is that of course you need to be out there and you need to I just came from Bali. There was a beautiful event there where I met amazing people. Dr. Michael Beckwith, Jerry Sargeant, all these people that are very famous uh for what they are doing. And then you need perseverance. You need perseverance because everyone has been a startup like we started just back in September. Imagine.
Host Yeah.
Karine We’re just brand new. And if I don’t have the the mi the the the mission, the vision, the perseverance, then where will I go? Nowhere. So I think for anyone who really wants something, this is the ingredients. Perseverance is at the end.
Host Yeah. Universal. It’s a universal truth. And not many people want to hear that. Um a lot of like a the majority of of successful entrepreneurs not the one that attracted investments but the one who who made it themselves they were pretty much broke for first year or maybe two years. So you really have to overcome uh the first stretch where you unsuccessful because this is where you learn right and you try again and fail again and you try again and try so it’s like incremental improvements becoming 1% better every time.
Karine Absolutely. Absolutely. And you know what every failure is not a failure it’s just an experience which leads you to the next step. And we have to see our life like that in general. We are here to have an experience they say in our human body as a soul. So if we see everything as a lesson the school of life uh and like in school you you make mistakes you improve you get better then this is a beautiful way how to go to move forward. I think uh as you just said, we just need to go through all of these stages until we reach where we want to be.
Host Until we reach Nirvana.
17:45 How to Connect Karine
Host Okay. Um uh Karine, if people want to connect with you, work with you, become the guests of your podcast or any opportunities to to connect with you, what would do you say to them? How do they do that?
Karine Okay. Well, there’s there’s different uh possibilities and opportunities. If you would be like um a therapist, a doctor, a coach and you would have something that you want to tell the world, they can contact me on uh either the website uh or my email which is office@sanctoum.com and um we can we can discuss uh what is the subject etc etc. Other than that uh we I invite everyone to take a look at the website itself www.sanctoum.com and you can see also there is one category of the magazine and you can read uh in so many different categories we have 12 different categories whatever is of your interest and then you can come back to me and you can ask questions. Now one thing I want to say we’re working on something that is also very close to my heart. I would like to create a community where people can come to me and they can ask me where they should go with this and that problem. So we are working on that because the magazine when you read an article is one thing but then you say okay I have that knowledge now and where will I find the right person that can help me because I think this is my problem for example. So we’re working on maybe it’s going to be like a small membership that you can ask any question then you will come back to me personally I come back to you and I will tell you okay I can refer this person or I can give you this advice. I just had this last week of a person that has abandonment issues which many many people have from their childhood and there is many different ways how to um address this. So yeah, this is my invitation and um and hopefully this will come up very soon, but office@sanctoum.com is my email and anyone can contact me via there or via the website as well.
Host The website is amazing. So I encourage all of you guys who are looking for answers, who are looking for more peaceful life or more fulfilled life to check it out. So Karine, I want to thank you greatly.
Karine Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you for inviting me and all the best to everyone.
